Wednesday... and... Lāčplēsis Diena
Marija, mom, and I went for a walk around Jurkalne and to the old chicken farm. It was quite chilly, but mom and I had fun kicking rocks and being silly while Marija walked ahead of us, wondering why we were so slow. Afterwards, I went to the computer and they walked home (and had to come back to the library because I'd forgotten to give them the keys to the house!)
Got annoyed at mom, as I asked her who was Lačplesis and she went on and on about 1919, when the Latvian soldiers kicked out the Germans (which is what Lačplešis Diena commemorate, but isn't the story I wanted to know). I asked her who he was again, and she had no idea what I was talking about.
Word................varonis = hero
Dish..................baked eggplant with a creamy tomato, onion, horseradish sauce... I was experimenting and it was actually pretty good.
Highlight.............as always, going on a walk with mom
Lowlight.............yet again, not getting my questions answered..
Random observation....... love wikipedia... here's the link about Lačplesis....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/lāčplēsis
It was an epic poem written in the late 1800s about the Bear Slayer...I'm going to try and find an English version in Riga.
