Thursday
Yay! Woke up early to finish cleaning my room and getting ready to go to Riga. Checked the car's oil, and then, it seemed kinda nice out, so mom and I went to the beach for our walk-run. But when we got there, the wind was howling and I kept my run very short and mom walked up by the parking lot, where it was more protected, and then waited for me in the car. There was one moment when I was running that I saw a black lump on the beach and I couldn't tell if it was a log or rock or if mom had fallen over in the wind and couldn't get up. I tried to run faster and was a bit panicking, but the wind was too strong, and I couldn't see that well because the wind was making my eyes water.... of course, it was just a log.
I left Jurkalne around 2pm. Picked Lia up in Riga (with a tulip in hand to greet her in the true Latvian style) and on our way to mom's, stopped at a nice little Kafenica for dinner.
We got home around 9ish and we were greeted with the smell of sweets... mom and Marija had a baking contest while we were gone. Mom baked a flatbread cake (with cake-mix instead of her usual dough) and a strawberry-krejum topping. Marija baked a triple layer chocolate cake with a raspberry-bruklene layer, a chocolate-whipped cream, and a plain whipped cream layer. Both were yummy but I actually liked the chocolate cake best and Lia liked the strawberry bread best. (of course, we just told them that both were fantastic!) Mom even said she wanted to make a welcome banner but couldn't find a piece of paper big enough... what the hell!
We ate our sweets then off to bed.
Word..................tulip = tulpe
Dish..................mom's experimental strawberry-cream bread! crazy that she tried something new like that!
Highlight.............everything... seeing Lia. seeing that mom and Marija baked all day to welcome Lia.
Lowlight..............6 hours driving in the dark, with light rain (better than with heavy rain or snow!)
Random observation....... mom is soooo cute!
